The Stampin' Royalty Challenge this week is One Layer Cards, and believe it or not, this IS one layer!
How did i do it, you ask? I'll be glad to tell you!

But before I do, can i just say how doggone CUTE this stamp set is?? It is from the Wood You Be Mine set that will be in the upcoming Occasions Catalog, and it is adorable! that pleasant lumberjack will be stealing many hearts :)
So now on to my techniques for the card....
I started out by stamping the sentiment in Early Espresso on Naturals White Cardstock, then stamped ol' Jack right above those words, then i made a 'mask' to place over Jack and the words so i dont stamp over them. to make the mask, i just measured the area i wanted to cover, then cut a piece of very thin copy paper in a rectangle large enough and used my Tombo glue to put a thin coating on the back (then let it dry so it is tacky) and placed it over the image.
I inked up my Woodgrain background stamp in Baked Brown Sugar and stamped over the mask and the whole card, creating a sort of frame

.
I then used my Baked Brown Sugar Stampin' Write Marker and a ruler and drew lines over the edge of the stamped part to make it look clean and divided. I then created lines the same way surrounding the wording to make it look like another layer.

I colored Jack a little bit using my blender pens, then to finish it off, i actually DREW on what LOOKS like brads or Candy Dots....I used my older style Paper Piercing mat with the different size circles to draw dots on the paper with my Baked Brown Sugar marker, then I used a bead of my Crystal Effects over each circle and let it dry to create a faux brad/candy dot...
I like it {:oD

Cool:)
I like it too.....in fact I LOVE it! This is one of the best one layer cards I've seen!
Love it! I need to break in my lumberjack set, and your card is great inspiration!
What did you use for your mask, so it didn't leave a halo around it? Cute, cute, cute!!
Thank you so much, Ladies! :oD
Mary, I just used very thin copy type paper cut into a rectangle large enough to cover up Jack and the words, then used a super thin coat of tombo glue (dried) on the back to temporarily stick it on there while i stamped the woodgrain :)
Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
That is so clever! What a great idea!
I love what you did!!! I thought for sure those were candy dots. Thank you for sharing this card--I think I see something very similar to it in my future :)
Awesome card1
